Ladies board free at Mt. Seymour on Monday

I’ve lived in or around Vancouver since I was 12 years old, but until this winter, I’d never even attempted to ski or snowboard. So when I signed up for the Ladies Club lessons at Mount Seymour, I was pretty nervous. (Strapping a board to your feet and pointing it down a snow-covered mountain just seems a little bit crazy when you’ve never done it before…)

All season long, Mondays have been "Guys Night Out -- Girls Ride Free" at Mount Seymour. That means that ladies got free lift passes after 6 p.m. , and for only $200 for 4 weeks, you could also get rentals and lessons in small groups. The lessons were great, with really skilled instructors. And the boarding was nowhere near as scary as I thought it would be – I think the worst part was the rope tow ;-). At my last lesson, I finally had a breakthrough and managed to link a couple turns – next up, I’m tackling Cypress!

Ladies Club lessons are over for the year, but there’s one more chance to snowboard (or ski) for free on Monday, March 24. You'll need to stop by one of several local board shops to pick up a voucher before heading up the mountain -- and since the event is a fundraiser for the BC Cancer Foundation, bring a few loonies or twonies along.

You can get all the details and find out where to get your voucher here:

And keep an eye out for the Ladies Club lessons next year!
