Lacrosse On Its Way Back to Vancouver?

lacrosse.jpg

That's what we're hoping. The Vancouver Ravens professional lacrosse team was last seen in 2004 and they were supposed to move from GM Place to Pacific Coliseum for the 2005 season, but because of financial shortcomings, it never happened. In fact, the team folded altogether. Well, a set of Seattle-based investors are lobbying to bring the Ravens back to Vancouver, and thankfully for them, the "National Lacrosse League announced Tuesday it has granted conditional approval for the return of a franchise to Vancouver fo the 2008 season."

In order to guarantee their entry, the organizers will need to secure an arena lease -- which will likely be either GM Place or Pacific Coliseum, both of which they've been conversing with for months -- as well as 2,500 season ticket commitments by July 19. Investors representative Bob Whitsitt says that "they have letters from a number of fans committed to buying season tickets if professional lacrosse returns to Vancouver."

Unlike previous owners of the Vancouver-based lacrosse team, these investors are said to bring quite a bit of capital. "We've put together a business plan with a long-term view," said Whitsitt.
