John Furlong, VANOC Get Ready to Hit the Ice

johnfurlong-hockey.jpg

Up until now, everything that John Furlong and the rest of the VANOC team has done has been preparation for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics. These have been the planning stages, working out the logistics of transportation, security, and all the other elements that go into hosting such a huge international event. With just a little over two years left until the opening ceremonies, it's time to put those plans in motion.

Over the course of these 700 some-odd days, the Olympic Organizing Committee will be "moving from ideas to reality." All of those plans that they've been working on will be tested at some other events in the interim, like the World Cup and other competitions that will be taking place at venues that will also be used for Olympic events.

In John Furlong's own words, "We're going operational. We're moving off the drawing board."

The opening ceremony for the 2010 Winter Olympics is scheduled for February 12, 2010.
