Italian Kitchen: Mighty tasty, reasonably priced

I ventured to Italian Kitchen for lunch the other day. The newest offering from the Glowbal Restaurant Group (who also own Glowbal, Coast, and Sanafir), Italian Kitchen (and its sister restaurant in Kitsilano, Trattoria Italian Kitchen ) offers a casual atmosphere for Italian food that doesn't feel *too* casual. There's absolutely no air of Olive Garden here... the room is classy, there's great light, and the servers look sharp and offer great service.

And the food? Well, while the dish I had would be a sure first-date killer, I can tell you it was utterly delicious. I had the Torta di Mascarpone pizza ($13), which was utterly covered in roasted garlic (must have been more than a head), sauteed onions, potatoes, and rich cheese. I'm sure garlic will waft from my pores for days, but I would happily do it again. My dining companion had the Seared Wild Spring Salmon ($17) and offered positive reports.

If you're looking for an upbeat place to have a tasty, not-too-expensive lunch, check out Italian Kitchen at 1037 Alberni. Just don't get the Torta di Mascarpone if you've got an afternoon full of meetings!
