Is Tourism the Biggest Victim of the Strike?

grousemountain.jpg

As the strike of Vancouver's outside (and inside) workers continues, you've got to wonder if Vancouver tourism is the biggest victim of this whole process. Sure, residents have to deal with an increasingly large pile of garbage, and parents have to scramble for daycare services, but what about all the money that comes in each summer when tourists visit our fantastic town? After they see the piles of garbage overflowing from the trash cans on the street and a lack of municipal services, will they ever come back? Could this have long-range ramifications?

In related news, The Chronicle Journal is reporting that Mayor Sam Sullivan has put a five-year deal on the table for the unions to consider and he is urging them to accept. Are we in for the long haul or will this strike come to an end soon?
