IOC President Pleased with 2010 Progress

ioc-pres.jpg

We all remember that fateful day when Vancouver/Whistler won the rights to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. It was an exciting time for our city and it has sparked all sorts of development. Checking up on how we are doing, IOC (International Olympic Committee) President Jacques Rogge decided to pay Vancouver a visit this week and he has been very happy with the "great progress that has been made on some of the venues for the Games."

More specifically, Rogge took a look at the speed skating oval in Richmond and the Winter Sports Centre in UBC, saying that these venues look great and he is "very excited" about the prospects. He was also able to see the Vancouver Olympic Village where the athletes will call home for the two weeks of festivities.

"With a little under two years to go, the Vancouver Organising Committee and its local partners have made great progress in making sure that the athletes in 2010 will be able to compete on some truly impressive competition venues and sleep in two state-of-the-art villages," said the IOC President. "I have no doubt that when the athletes arrive for the Games, they will be very happy with the venues and villages that they will have here in British Columbia.”
