History in Art

sm_monet_wheatfield.jpgStarting June 11, The Vancouver Art Gallery is presenting a wonderful exhibit showcasing the European modernist movement from The Cleveland Museum of Art.

On display are examples of art and sculpture from Manet, Monet, Cezanne, van Gogh, Rodin, Picasso and Dali. This exhibit from Cleveland gives us an overview of impressionist art, post-impressionism, dadaism, cubism and the many other ideas that exploded during this time period. A century of art from 1864 to 1964.

I for one, cannot wait to see this exhibit. While I love the vibrant modern art community in Vancouver, I miss a taste of the 'old world.' I grew up in Edinburgh and had a FREE art museum packed with some of the best examples of the 'old masters' five minutes from my elementary school.

This is an excellent opportunity to see some beautiful pieces of art and history.

The exhibit runs to September 16th, and you can buy tickets for set viewing times online. Tickets are $19.50 for Adults.
