Hiking Garibaldi: Not an easy climb, but sooo worth it!

Last weekend I braved the Sea-to-Sky highway and headed up to Garibaldi Park to do some hiking.

Thinking that I've walked in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer for the last three years (60K) and therefore was very well prepared to tackle the 18K return hike to Garibaldi Lake is really kind of funny in retrospect. Of course, I didn't realize at the time that the first 6K are a set of switchbacks that take you straight up the mountainside -- an 810 metre elevation change.

Still, as we approached the lake, exhausted though I was, I was floored. The colour of the lake is indescribable. Thing turquoise-blue Caribbean waters, but even bluer. Glancing away from the lake for two seconds to look at the trail was long enough to be stunned again by looking back at the lake -- it is literally that unbelievable.

Of course, the colour is never the same in photos, but here's the best I can do:

Of course, then you get to the side of the lake where you can see the glacier, and you're stunned again:

After all that uphill, you can imagine that it's a long trek back down -- tough on knees, ankles, and toes. But it is sooo worth it! You can find out more about hiking in Garibaldi Park here.
