Vancouver is home to a lot of great festivals and summer seems to the prime time for many of these great fests. While some people are more into urban hip hop or electronica, there is a huge following in Vancouver for jazz and that's the thinking behind the TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival. In fact, the Jazz fest has been voted as the "Best Jazz Festival" in the National Jazz Awards a few weeks ago.
Headlining the 2008 season will be legendary jazz musician Herbie Hancock, an artist who is just coming off of a momentous Grammy Award win. Herbie Hancock will be opening the festival on June 20 with a group that includes saxophonist Chris Potter, guitarist Lionel Loueke, bassist Dave Holland, and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta.
The Vancouver International Jazz Festival will offer over 400 concerts, 130 of which are free. Check it out on from June 20th to the 29th, and don't forget about the free Canada Day shows on July 1st.
