Gregor Robertson Wins Vision Vancouver Nod

We're getting close to electing a new Vancouver mayor. Vision Vancouver got together over the weekend to decide who will be representing their party at the upcoming election and the candidate that came out on top was NDP MLA Gregor Robertson. He is also the co-founder of the Happy Planet beverage company.

Robertson beat out Raymond Louie and Allan De Genova for the mayoral bid, based on a total of nearly 6,800 votes from party representatives. Robertson got 3,495 votes, whereas Louie got 2,244 "drawing heavily from a variety of ethnic communities." De Genova brought up the rear with a mere 981 votes. For all intents and purposes, it sounds like a pretty decisive victory. Robertson received over 50% of the votes.

The Vancouver civic election is scheduled to take place this September. Gregor Robertson will be facing off against NPA candidate Peter Ladner, the man who beat current mayor Sam Sullivan for the NPA nomination.
