You know how this city workers strike was supposed to be short-lived? You know how all that garbage piling up in the alleys was supposed to cleared up in a couple of weeks? You know how they said that an agreement would be forged by Thanksgiving (today)? Well, apparently we all know nothing.
The latest report coming from the city strike mediator is that the job action may continue into the new year, bringing us at least two and a half more months of stinking garbage, closed libraries, and under-maintained park lands.
Mediator Brian Foley said that this will likely be the case because "two of the three striking union locals recommended rejection of his proposals." Both outside workers and library workers have been "urged" to turn down the proposal. Only the inside workers have been told that they should accept the new agreement.
