Vancouver is home to one of North America's biggest gay populations. As such, we are probably home to one of North America's biggest gay senior populations as well. Unfortunately, most retirement homes do not welcome openly gay and lesbian residents, so the gay and grey have very few places to turn.
Apparently that's about to change Dean Malone and Darren Stoltz have partnered up with RainbowVision of Santa Fe, New Mexico to work out a plan that would see the development of a retirement home specifically catered to gay seniors. The two businessmen are already familiar with taking care of people, because they run Plum Living, a firm that "provides in-home support and health care services for gays and lesbians."
"We told people about the meetings through our little network of people and word of mouth and expected maybe 10 or 15 people to show up," said Malone. "We got more than 50 people at each meeting, so I think this is something that the community wants."
