Fuse Pan Asian Express: Oooh, I like this one!

I've mentioned before that I'm vegetarian. This can sometimes make it challenging to find interesting dishes to eat in restaurants, as even in Vancouver many restaurants serve the vegetarian market with (a) a veggie burger or (b) a token pasta dish. Asian restaurants in general offer better choice for vegetarians, but what I really liked about Fuse Pan Asian Express was the long list of vegetarian tapas.

My dining companion and I shared 5 small dishes: Grilled Hand Rolled Vegetable-Medley Dumplings ($6, also available with pork), Sweet Tofu Thai Bites ($7, also available with chicken), Organic Sesame Ginger Tofu ($4), Cilantro Hoisin Roll ($6), and Sizzling Bean Duo ($6).

The Organic Sesame Ginger Tofu was okay, but nothing special. The other 4 dishes were spectacular. I mean, really spectacular. Great flavours, great textures... just a really great dining experience. And cheap! For $29 in food, we walked away mighty full.

Fuse doesn't have a liquor license, but they do have specialty house-made ice teas. I had the mango puree variety, and my dining companion had the black currant. They were a light and refreshing way to wash down our tasty tapas, and I didn't really miss the beer.

Fuse is located in a little hole in the wall behind the Boulangerie La Parisienne at the corner of Helmcken and Mainland in Yaletown. They offer an extensive takeout menu as well as dine-in options. Definitely worth a visit!

Thanks for the tip. I'm not vegetarian but my girlfriend is. She had the dumplings you talked about and I had the cilantro pork ones. You didn't exagerate, the food was spectacular. We dhad the iced teas too which were good but unlike you, I DID miss the beer! :) lucky for us we found the yaletown brew pub literally next door so we're definitely coming back as there were a lot of items that we wanted to try but we were too full. Yum!
