Five Bucks For A Ride to Surrey

vancouverbusstopsign.jpg

Taking public transportation in Metro Vancouver has just got a little more expensive. If you plan on commuting from Surrey to Downtown Vancouver, the ride on the bus or Skytrain is going to cost you five bucks. It's still cheaper than gas, I suppose, but this makes Vancouver one of Canada's most expensive cities to ride the bus. And I thought they were trying to encourage us to take public transportation rather than drive our cars.

The fare hike was approved last June and came into effect yesterday. The change in price affects buses, Seabuses, Skytrains, Handydarts, and the West Coast Express.

A regular one-zone fare (and discount fare) is now $2.50 (was $2.25). Regular two-zone and three-zone fares are $3.75 and $5.00, respectively (was $3.25 and $4.50). Concession fares for one, two, and three-zones are now $1.75, $2.50, and $3.50.

If you're looking to save a little money, you may consider Faresaver books of 10 tickets ($19, $28, $38) or monthly passes ($73, $99, $136).
