Federal Government Likes Luck of the Irish

Vancouver is known to be home to a number of different cultures and in celebrating all of these cultures, we get treated to all sorts of festivals and other events. Well, these events cost money to run, so it always helps when some funding comes into the picture.

CelticFest is scheduled to take place between March 12 and March 16 of this year, and the CelticFest Vancouver Society will have a little help from the federal government in the form of a $9,850 "investment" that will help the organization celebrate Celtic culture and heritage. The event will include over 50 indoor and outdoor concerts, workshops, family entertainment, readings, music, and a St. Patrick's Day Parade.

This represents "one of the first festivals to receive funding under the new Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program," said Josee Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages. "We are proud to partner with communities to support activities that celebrate local history, arts, and heritage."
