Conservatives Say, "Not So Fast"

recount.jpg

A couple of days ago, I told you about Liberal Joyce Murray and how she declared victory in the Vancouver Quadra by-election. I also said that the race was remarkably close and the Conservative candidate in the riding, Deborah Meredith, didn't concede until the last possible moment. It turns out that the rest of the party isn't quite so quick to concede.

Murray only garnered 151 more votes than Meredith, despite the fact that Vancouver Quadra has voted Liberal since 1984. Murray was hand-picked by Stephane Dion and federal Conservatives are saying that Dion "managed to turn a safe Liberal seat into a squeaker in his own campaign director's backyard."

It's unlikely that the Tories will follow through with a request for a recount, but this does demonstrate that you still need to motivate your voters, even in a "safe" riding.
