Congratulations To Sochi, Russia!

You have to give credit to Vladimir Putin who put his personal reputation on the line for Sochi's 2014 Winter Olympic Bid. Putin's personal touch was all over this bid, including being present and actively involved in delivering the final presentation to the IOC Voting Committee yesterday. Many observers and analysts point to Putin as being the primary catalyst behind Sochi's stunning victory.

While Russia secures its first Winter Olympics, for PyeongChang this is truly a devastating defeat. That's two straight final ballot losses in a row for South Korea, and one has to wonder if they will have the fortitude to try for a third time. Salzburg, Austria came in third again, and it is becoming increasingly clear that Austria lacks the investment and political pedigree that it takes to win.
