City's Inside Workers Go Back To Work

cityhall.jpg

The good news is that after 12 grueling weeks of negotiations and stalemates, Vancouver's inside city workers have come to agreement with the City of Vancouver, agreeing to the terms as recommended by a mediator. This new contract will send more than 2,000 employees back to their jobs.

The bad news is that the two other groups -- outside workers and library workers -- are not accepting the mediator's recommendations, meaning that we could be in for the long haul. Garbage collection and library services may not re-commence until the new year.

Both unions say at this point they are negotiating on matters of principle and not money.
