City Deals With Major Backlog Following Strike's End

vancouvercityhall-flag.jpg

While we are all obviously glad that the strike is over for two of the city's biggest unions, representing the City of Vancouver's inside and outside workers, it has now resulted in a major backlog.

The Journal of Commerce is reporting that several builders, developers, and architects were lining up outside Vancouver City Hall on the morning of October 12th, anxious to get their hands on building and development permits and other City-provided pieces of paper. After twelve weeks on strike, Vancouver's inside workers found "more than 30 people" lined up as early as 4 a.m.

On the garbage front, things are probably even worse. Trash pickup resumed on Monday, but even those in the "green" zone weren't fully served on Monday, leaving certain areas still heaping full of garbage. I also noticed that the recycling pickup truck didn't come around my house either.

They've got some major catching up to do.
