Canada Line Finally Sees the Light

tunnel.jpg

We once knew it as the RAV (Richmond-Airport-Vancouver) Line. It was supposed to be the great transportation solution that would get people from YVR to downtown Vancouver in the most expedient of manners. What resulted was a whole lot of headache for businesses along No. 3 Road in Richmond and, even more so, for businesses along Cambie Village in Vancouver.

Thankfully, all that construction, delays, and traffic jams are getting a little closer to meeting their conclusion. A massive milestone was met on Sunday when the tunnel-boring machine broke through the ground and saw the light of day at the future site of the Waterfront Station. As you know, most of the Canada Line will be underground while in Vancouver, only coming above ground mostly for the Richmond leg of the line.

Premier Gordon Campbell was at yesterday's ceremony, along with several Canada Line officials and the workers who have been on the project. Campbell went on to say that Canada Line construction is on budget and "ahead of schedule, so every time you're ahead of schedule you're in better shape for the long term."
