Broadway Blast Rattles Buildings Six Blocks Away

broadwayboom.jpg

If you were wondering why buses along West Broadway were re-routed this morning, the picture above from Flickr might serve as a bit of an explanation. As it turns out, there was a massive explosion at 2:30 this morning, rattling buildings up to six blocks away.

Early reports point toward a gas leak inside the Taco Del Mar restaurant near the corner of Broadway and Heather. This then lead to a massive explosion that would completely destroy the taco stand as well as the Starbucks location next door. Furthermore, glass windows were shattered in front of the London Drugs across the street, as well as a sixth floor hotel room inside the Holiday Inn. According to Flickr user JakeInVan, the explosion shook his building six blocks away.

Police are still investigating whether this was simply an accident or whether criminal activity was involved. Thankfully, there are no reports of casualties or injuries.
