Bill Reid Theft Linked to False Phone Call

ubcsecurity.jpg

By now, you've probably heard about the massive theft at UBC's Museum of Anthropology where someone stole a huge collection of gold artwork by the legendary Bill Reid. As the police continue with their investigation, a new development could help them track down the right suspect and bring him to justice.

Prior to the heist, UBC campus security received a phone call from someone who claimed to be from the alarm company. Several cameras unexpectedly went online and the phone call said the system was malfunctioning and campus security should ignore any alarms that would occur over the course of the next several hours. This would give the thief enough time to nab the Bill Reid collection. It was a multi-million dollar heist.

And the kicker is the suspected thief is actually an experienced jeweler.
