At Least 6 Temperature Records Broken This Week

spanishbanksheat.jpg

Wednesday was a scorcher, wasn't it? I remember when I was listening to the radio deejay that morning and she said that temperatures would be 28 degrees Celsius by the water and up to 37 degrees in-land. That's some pretty crazy heat. So crazy, in fact, that no fewer than six temperature records were shattered this week. Records get broken all the time, but having no fewer than six broken all in the same day? That's pretty amazing.

Coming on the heels of a June that received double the average rainfall and just over half the average hours of sunlight, Wednesday's blistering July sun broke records on Vancouver Island, in Greater Vancouver and in the Fraser Valley.

I spent most of the day indoors, but even then, I could definitely feel the heat. Just a few minutes out in the sun and you'd already be reaching for the closest water bottle.

Meteorologists are predicted a more comfortable temperature for this upcoming weekend, just in time for the Folk Music Festival too.

On a related note, there is no city worker strike just yet. Thank goodness. The last thing we need is crazy high temperatures coupled with hot garbage sitting on our streets festering.
