Apparently, iPods Can Be Disastrous to Your Health

lightning.jpg

Here's an interesting story for you. Back in June 2005, a 27-year-old man went for a jog through a Burnaby Park. Unluckily for him, there was a thunderstorm in the area and he was hit by lightning. But that's not the worst of it.

Like many other joggers, the man was listening to music on his iPod and the electric current from the lightning coursed through his ear buds, causing all sorts of irreversible damage. He was thrown two meters. In the end, he received ruptured eardrums, a broken jaw, and several significant burns on his chest, neck and face. The burn pattern traced the position of the earphones.

Although nothing has been set in stone, the man appears to be considering legal action against Apple, blaming them for the incident. Clearly, the iPod didn't cause the man to be struck by lightning, per se, but it certainly didn't help the situation. Following the same line of thought, a cell phone, especially one with a wired headset, could provide very similar effects.
