Another Strike Pending in Metro Vancouver

onstrike.jpg

Again? It seems like this city can go a few months without another major service heading to the picket lines. Seeing how we've already suffered through recent strikes by hospital staff, librarians, garbage collectors, and just about everyone else that you can imagine, it seems like another strike is looming on the horizon.

It has been reported that the 400 workers from Teamsters Local 31 have served 72 hour strike notice on their employer, which happens to Metro Vancouver (we used to know it as the Greater Vancouver Regional District). Among the workers involved with this union are administrative, technical, and scientific staff. These are the people who monitor our drinking water, deal with our sewage, and occupy all sorts of other occupations.

The vote was held earlier, seeing 86% of union members voting in favour of a strike "if deemed necessary."
