Aga Khan Visits Vancouver

agakhan.jpg

Vancouver prides itself in being a multicultural city. We have people with ethnic backgrounds from all around the world and we celebrate the festivities related to all sorts of different religions. Where else would you be able to celebrate Chinese New Year, Diwali, Robbie Burn's Day, and Yom Kippur in the same town?

While the Muslim community has suffered many injustices since the events of 9/11, Vancouver is still very welcoming of people with Muslim and Middle Eastern heritage. As such, a huge crowd gathered at Pan Pacific Hotel last night to welcome the Aga Khan.

The Aga Khan, according to Wikipedia, is "the hereditary title of the Imam of the Nizārī Muslims, the largest branch of the Ismā'īlī followers of the Shī‘a faith." He is the spiritual leader of an estimated 15 million Nizari Ismaili Muslims around the world.
