21st Annual Vancouver Wooden Boat Festival Starts Thursday

IMG_0785.JPG

The 21st Annual Vancouver Wooden Boast Festival takes place Thursday, August 21 - Sunday, August 24 on Granville Island. The festival, produced by the Vancouver Wooden Boat Society, is a chance for everyone to see how wooden boats are made, and to set your eyes on some really lovely wooden boats.

The festival bills itself as "he friendliest wooden boat festival in the Pacific Northwest," so don't be afraid to come down and have a look even if you don't know anything about wooden boats. Last year, there were
more than 75 vessels and exhibitors last year, including temporary docks outside the Public Market that are home to a colourful display of unique wooden boats.

The festival features everything from canoes to a 40-foot replica Viking ship with 14 oars and a 400 square foot sail. There's a Family Boat Building class, where over four days a group or family can build a skiff, and kids' boat building sessions where children make miniature boats to sail on the pond.
