skijumper.jpg

As we get closer to the day the Olympics kick off in our fair city, more and more information about the two weeks of competition is starting to present itself. Earlier today, the official schedule for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler was released, after receiving approval from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Opening ceremonies are scheduled for February 12th, under the dome at BC Place Stadium. On that same day, competition will kick off with ski jumping (qualifying) at Whistler Olympic Park. That will be the only event scheduled for Day 1. The first set of medals will be awarded on Day 2 in men's downhill, men's 10k biathlon, men's individual ski jump finals, women's moguls, men's 1,500-meter short-track speedskating and the men's 5,000-meter long-track race.

The last day is on February 28th, the day that will see the men's ice hockey final, the 50K men's cross-country ski race, and finally the closing ceremonies at B.C. Place Stadium. That's seventeen days in total.
