2010 Olympic Pins Sold on eBay

ebaypin.jpg

Well, this shouldn't come as a big surprise. The CBC is reporting that several rare Olympic pins are showing up on eBay, some of which are fetching as much as $15 a piece... and that's before shipping. Based on my own research, the average going price is between $5 and $10 American.

This is a little disheartening, to be sure, because the pins are distributed free of charge to Olympic enthusiasts. Vancouver Chief of Protocol Sven Bueman got suspicious when he received several emails from "opportunists."

"We took a look at about three of these letters and suddenly realized that even though they came from different cities, they all had exactly the same font, the same size of font, the same style, the same sentencing."

They then ran a few of the requester's names through Google and "it came back with a movie listing — one of those sites that show all the details of a movie — and there was Field of Dreams and the two names were two characters out of that movie," said city clerk Syd Baxter.

Is this sickening or simply smart entrepreneurial spirit? I'm more inclined to agree with the former.
